The USMC/Combat Helicopter Association (otherwise known as Popasmoke) had a top-flight reunion in the nation's capital this past August. 1,450 assembled at the Washington Hilton for four days of beautiful weather and memorable events. Highlights of the reunion were the Memorial Service at the Vietnam Wall with a flyover, the special parade at 8th & I Marine Barracks, and a tour to the Marine Heritage Museum at Quantico. The Hilton Hotel was the perfect venue for the reunion; all squadrons had their own hootches (hospitality rooms) on one hallway, opening up to the hotel's courtyard and pool area. Membership in the association is open to personnel from all eras of helicopter deployment in the FMF, since the late 1940s, in the United States Marine Corps, including the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
